The internet is an amazing thing. It offers the potential of a genuinely unlimited income to someone determined enough to knuckle down and work hard.
Even with a little work and a little ingenuity any website can become a steady and passive income stream bringing in money week in week out with minimal efforts.
Whether you're doing something simple like adding a Google advertisement block using the
Google AdSense program which should at very least pay for your hosting, or building a site with the whole purpose of generating income, Archiculture will be more than happy to help you in your quest.
Before he opened his SEO services up to regular clients, our Mac was working with some of the richest, most successful players in the highly competitive Make Money On-line market (also known as MMO), and he continues to work in the on-line dating and matchmaking industry so he knows a thing or two about successful methods for making money online.
At the top end of the market, things are crazily competitive and cut-throat, but if an individual he's worked closely with has earned $15,000,000 in a single year, you'll see it can be worth it.
So without further ado, here are our top 8 methods for making money on-line...
1. Monetise your website with Google AdSense
Google AdSense is the number one choice to make a little money on a personal blog or website for practically no effort you sign up for free, select the kind of advert and size of advert you want and Google provides you with a piece of HTML code that you stick on your website.
This code magically shows visitors to your site product or service adverts related to your website or to your visitors recent searches. If they click these adverts you earn money. It's as simple as that.
Here's an example AdSense block:
The content will change each time your refresh the page, and if you've recently been searching for something it'll show you a related item.
2. Monetize your website with Clickbank products
Clickbank is an advertising and information distribution network that has made it's members over $2 billion since it's launch. If you have a website related to any type of niche whatsoever, be it gardening, woodwork, computers, keeping fit, beauty, training, self-improvement in fact anything chances are high that Clickbank will have related products that you can advertise on your website.
Like Google AdSense, you sign up for free and can then conduct detailed searches through their marketplace for products and services to promote. You find something you like the look of and the site (and sometimes the product owner) automatically creates a piece of HTML code for you that you insert in your website where you want the advert to display.
When a visitor sees the link and clicks on it, Clickbank will know that it's your site that's sent the visitor. If that visitor then buys the product or service (usually within 30 days of clicking your ad) and all the products are digital and are sent immediately you will receive a percentage of the selling price.
This percentage is typically 50% and can be 75%, even 90% of the selling price so with the right product on the right site the opportunity exists to make a very useful sum indeed.
3. Monetize your site by becoming an affiliate
There are several large affiliate advertising networks - Affiliate Window being the biggest in the UK, with companies such as Marks and Spencer, John Lewis and Boden on their books. Affiliate networks work on behalf of these large national, medium and small companies as a go between with website publishers.
What this means is you can join an affiliate program and publish one or more adverts on your website they can be related to your site, or just brands that you happen to like.
Some affiliate networks charge you to join, some are free at the time of writing Affiliate Window is free. What you do is sign up, select advertisers you wish to promote and click a button to request to do so. The advertiser will then decide whether or not they like the cut of your jib and if they do, and you're accepted you can select, cut and paste HTML code to display adverts, links and even fully functioning on-line shopping applications to your site.
When visitors click these adverts or links and buy the product (usually within 30 days of clicking your ad) you'll earn a percentage, varying for 4% to 30% of the purchase price.
You don't have to join an affiliate network to become an affiliate. You can approach websites directly and ask, but usually you'll look at the bottom, or footer of a website you like. If you see a link saying something like webmasters, affiliates or work with us - chances are that they offer their own affiliate scheme and you can sign up and start promoting them.
How much you earn depends on the niche you are in, the traffic volume to your site and the product you are selling it is possible to earn a substantial income as an affiliate but typically regular folks make between £20 and £300 a month. Some make £0 (but they're usually doing it wrong)
If your market is worldwide with a US slant, Commission Junction or CJ is the largest affiliate network in the world.
Next up we have sites that you build with the express aim of making money making money is no longer a sideline, but the heart and soul of the site. It may be that you're wanting to use the web to promote your own off-line trade or service, or you're wanting to create on-line income from a new site specifically built for the purpose.
We'll happily build you a site for your off-line business and promote it using our ninja-like SEO techniques, but here we're discussing the latter, on-line money making machines which we call Business-In-A-Box sites.
4. Building an On-line Shop
When most people think of e-commerce they automatically think of an on-line shop.
Like everything else, on-line shops come in many different flavours some you can build (or we can build for you) to sell your own products or services on your own site.
Alternatively you can link your site to a shop built within an existing service such as eBay, Etsy or one of countless other shopfront services.
Then there are hybrid shops where your shop is actually an affiliate site and the products you're selling are affiliate products. Or you can build a shop within Amazon either directly and sell your own products to Amazon customers, or sell other peoples products on YOUR site as an Amazon affiliate. Or you can...
Well it can get a bit complicated!
Want a shop? Why not let Archiculture advise you on the best solution for your specific needs?

5. Building a White Label Site
Not a lot of people know this, but there are a large number of internet based businesses (and some like Amazon - are shops) that will let you use their pre-built system to sell their service or product, but brand it as your own. This is known as white label after the own brand biscuits that come in, well, white labels.
Of course the supermarket doesn't make its own biscuits, they buy them in from a biscuit factory and then either brand them as their own or put them in a plain white wrapper.
And that's what a white label site is. Someone else's service, made to look like your own.
We have worked with some of the leading white label services and branded them successfully both for ourselves and clients but here's the rub...
White label sites are normally in extremely competitive markets, such as dating, herbal supplements, adult entertainment and gambling. You either
a) need to be a genius SEO wrangler to rank your site in search engines above the millions of competing sites,
b) need to have deep pockets to pay that bit more for clicks than the competition or
c) won't make a dime.
In our opinion, the best route to white label earnings for someone new to the internet is the Amazon-powered shop. Of course we'll happily build you a wonderful dating site and believe us when we say we can rank it page one of Google but it's by no means a cheap option.
6. Building an Information Site
What's an information site? Well as it's name suggests it's a site that gives people searching for some information the answers.
So how do you make money from an information site? It's a case of using the above monetization methods within a site that you've created specifically around a subject or topic that is both:
a) covering a topic that is highly searched for and
b) has high value clicks, commissions or products related to it...
or as is usually the case:
c) it's easy to rank in the search engine, pays moderately, gets reasonable traffic and you're willing to build lots of similar sites to make money.
Over the years we've built innumerable information sites covering subjects from medical conditions, to DIY hints and tips and they continue to bring in a steady effortless income for ourselves and our clients.
Sample Information Site: ShawarmaRecipe.com
7. Building a Review Site
A review website is a specialised information site, where you are taking a specific product, service or brand and either reviewing it yourself or building the site in such a way that the general public can review or rate the subject matter.
These sites are typically built around a high value physical product, or a service with affiliate adverts at the side, or affiliate links placed within the body of the review.
Sites can also be built around general subjects allowing you to review a range of products or services within the field.
Apparently the majority of Clickbank millionaires have made their money by reviewing high earning Clickbank products on sites with names such as productnamereview.com because a search term ending in review is what Internet Marketers call a buying phrase.
If you can purchase a buying phrase based domain name, for a good product and have the website rank highly in Google it's basic maths. You WILL make money.
And the more review sites you have, the more you'll make. Some will fail, some will become goldmines.
Example Review Site: Kitchen Units 101
8. Building Your Own E-product
It doesn't matter who you are chances are good that you'll know something about something.
The web is big enough that some people somewhere will want to know about that something.
You can go beyond an information site and build your own digital information product and promote it on your own information website.
How do you build an information product?
For a start it's not really building it's writing. Get the ideas or information in your head and write it down on a word processor. Once you're finished convert the file into a pdf using your favourite office tool and that's it you have an e-product. Is it any good? Well that's down to you but no matter what, someone will most likely buy How I Make A DooHicky Using Only Gizmos and Gadgets.
Then you (or preferably we) build your website MakeADooHicky.com
Next join Clickbank and use it as a distribution tool for your DooHicky guide. And sell the guide on MakeADooHicky.com, through Clickbank.
The best part is that if other internet marketers like your DooHicky product and feel that there are people out there clamouring for a step by step DooHicky manual, then THEY will promote it on THEIR sites and your DooHicky empire is born.
The bigger the market, the better your information and the need of the market to satisfy an urgent requirement will dictate how much you make from this, but surprisingly one of the best selling e-products on Clickbank is a guide to building your own garden shed.
We hope that our brief guide has given you an idea of the potential opportunities that exist to make money on-line, either in a small scale way that should at least cover your hosting expenses and everything between that and earning five or six figure incomes.
That's the glorious thing about the web anything is possible
whoever you are and wherever you are.
You can start with a single site, which we can build you for next to nothing
and take it from there.
The possibilities truly are endless.
